It's been a busy month, almost my last month in Germany for a while, and the organization and bureaucracy has at times almost seemed insurmountable. In June and July, all my investments are put on hold and even dividends received are not reinvested, but rather linger for the time being in my broker as I try to estimate how much money I'll be needing for my fresh start in Ecuador. Every once in a while, I try to make calculations (deposit for flat; car?; possibly furniture?; insurance?; etc.), but midway through I almost always give up and just shrug: no use while still being here - the aim is to get with enough liquidity to be hopefully able to pay all the expenses coming my way without having to sell parts of my portfolio. As of this writing, I am in my last month in Germany and in the last few weeks at my school where I have worked for the last 7 years. The end of the year is, as always, busy, which is why the real impact of leaving hasn't quite hit me yet, but I know once we'll get to the last few days, it will be hard as I'm not really good at dealing with goodbye-parties with both colleagues, friends and family.
While this kept me busy for most of the month, geopolitical affairs didn't just take a breather: in fact, yet another war escalated in the Middle East as both Iran and Israel starting fighting and the USA joined quickly after, leaving this situation as of now in a very fragile ceasefire. In another news of "housekeeping", the ECB decided to lower rates once again, leading to a considerable difference in interest rates between the USA and the EU.
While all of this was going on, I only just now had a chance to consider my dividend income. I had a hunch it was going to be my best month yet, and June lived up to that premonition. In total, I collected €844,10 in dividends from 45 stocks and/or funds. I had one eye at the beginning of the year on perhaps passing that 1K barrier this month, but as all the investments were put on hold as of now, I knew it was going to be impossible. Still, this is a milestone for me as it is the first time that I made more than €800 in dividends, and I'm a little proud of that.
For now, I am trying to close the book on this school year and my last month here as I tidy up the remaining last loose ends (every time you cross something off your to-do list, there seems to pop up another thing). Investments will be halted for the next months or two as I'll try to figure out if/how much money I'll be able to invest each month in this new setting. The next time I'll write here, it will be most likely from the other end of the world. Till then, take care!
