To the idea behind the album of the week, go here. (It is becoming more like the album of the month, but I'm defiantly carrying on as best as I can. ;-))
Just like Bob Dylan paid tribute to Sinatra late in his career, so did Willie Nelson with "That's Life", covering songs of the Great American Songbook. These songs - at least among my friends - sort of divide: one find them hopelessly sentimental and borderline cheesy and tacky, others find them innocently wholesome and from an era for which some still have a soft spot for.
I sort of swing between these extremes, but lean (most of the time, anyway) towards the latter. That's why on the whole I quite enjoyed this album. It's a free-flowing and easily digestible album with pleasant songs carried by excellent musicians.
Standout tracks: the fatalistic "That's Life" & the melanchonial "In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning"
