1920, Littlehampton, a small English sea-side resort: "Wicked little letters" filled with insults and abuse keep appearing in this village and are directed in particular at one devout Christian spinster, Edith, who lives with her ill-tempered and over-bearing father in an utterly patriarchal world. The case makes the headlines and quickly a suspect is found - Edith's Irish neighbour Rose, who is famous for her swearing, boisterous personality, and a rather freewheeling lifestyle - and quickly arrested by the police. But one persistent police officer, "female police officer" Gladys Moss as she is often contemptuously referred to, harbours doubts about Rose's guilt and begins to investigate further and so the adventurous chase for the real author of these wicked little letters takes off and we dive into the sinister secrets of Littlehampton ...
I saw this movie - which by the way is based on a true story - as part of a sneak preview and had to say I had a blast and just thought about passing this movie along to anoyone who's interested. Good comedies are far and few between, but if you want to have a good laugh for 90 minutes, this one might one for you. You can have a look at the trailer here.
