Dividend Update: October 24

 Thailand - Land of smiles

October came and went as I was backpacking through Tailand for the last two weeks of the month - a country and a trip on which I'd like to write a travel report if I ever find the time to do it. But I can see the appeal for expats who want to live there, especially those who want to retire early there: The climate is pleasant, its nature is breathtaking, the people for the most part (apart from a few crooked auto rickshaw drivers who try to rip off tourists) very friendly, it's safe (compared to some parts in Latin America, for example) and life is (particularly in the not so touristy cities) extremely (!) cheap.

With an average European salary, you'd be able to live quite a luxurious life there: have a little less (with a smaller portfolio) and you could still live there comfortably. Moreover, I have read that when it comes to taxation of stocks and dividends, Thailand is extremly friendly, meaning that you get more bang (dividends) from the buck (your portfolio). It is an attractive destination which I will keep in mind for the day that I generate enough money from my portfolio.

Last month I crossed again the 400€ barrier, but it most likely wouldn't be enough to get me there yet. Earnings largely passed me by as I soaked in the atmosphere of my first trip to Southeast Asia and I will have to catch up on my most important holdings in November. A taste of freedom at a beach in Thailand
